Privacy Policy

FindMyCFI ("FindMyCFI," "we," "us," or "our") is a map-first marketplace that connects student pilots with Certified Flight Instructors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. FindMyCFI is operated by Grayson Fritz as an individual.

By using FindMyCFI, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and date of birth. You can sign in with Google (via Google OAuth) or with a one-time email link ("magic link"). If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from your Google account as permitted by your Google settings. We do not receive or store your Google password.

Date of birth and parental attestation. We collect your date of birth to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement and to apply the correct terms to your account. If you are 16 or 17 years old, we also record that you attested, at signup, that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to our Terms of Service on your behalf and will supervise your use of the Service, including any in-person flight instruction arranged through it. Instructor profile information. If you list yourself as a Certified Flight Instructor, we collect the information you choose to provide, which may include your ratings, home airport, flight school affiliation, aircraft details, hourly rate, biography, gallery photos and captions, and other profile content.

Instructor verification information. If you provide a flight instructor certificate number and a certificate image, we store this information privately. Verification information is not shown on your public profile and is accessible only to you and to us for the purpose of operating the service. If you upload a certificate for review, a member of our team may view it and cross-check it against the public FAA airman registry to decide whether to display a verification badge on your profile, as described in our Terms of Service. The badge itself does not reveal your certificate number or image to other users.

Student profile information. If you use FindMyCFI as a student pilot, we collect the profile information you choose to provide. Your student profile is contact-gated: it becomes visible to an instructor only after a message conversation exists between you and that instructor.

Messages. When you message another user through the platform, we store the content of those messages so the conversation is available to both parties. We may send email notifications about new messages.

Reviews. You may leave reviews of instructors after a genuine message exchange has occurred. Reviews you submit, and the fact that you submitted them, are stored and may be displayed publicly.

Saved instructors and waitlist signups. We store the instructors you save and the airports you join a waitlist for, so we can show them to you and notify you when relevant.

Usage and technical information. We collect basic technical information automatically, such as your device and browser type, and limited activity data needed to operate the service. We track profile views so an instructor can see how many times their profile has been viewed. Profile-view data is visible only to the owner of that profile.

Approximate location. To show you airports and instructors near you and to display distances, the service may use approximate location derived from your device or network. We do not collect precise GPS location unless you provide it.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve FindMyCFI, including to: create and manage your account; display instructor and student profiles; enable discovery on the map; facilitate messaging between users; send transactional emails such as message notifications and waitlist alerts; display reviews; provide profile-view counts to profile owners; maintain the security and integrity of the service; and respond to your requests.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. How information is shared

With other users. FindMyCFI is a marketplace, so some information is shared with other users by design. Public instructor profiles are visible to anyone using the service. Your name and the content of your messages are visible to the user you are communicating with. Student profiles are shared with an instructor only once a conversation exists. Reviews may be displayed publicly. Instructor verification information is never shown to other users.

With service providers (sub-processors). We use trusted third parties to run the service. They process information only to provide their services to us. They are:

Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and server functions.
Vercel — application hosting.
Resend — sending transactional email.
Cloudflare — domain name routing and email routing.
Google — sign-in via Google OAuth, when you choose it.
Mapbox — rendering the interactive map; Mapbox may process map interactions and approximate location to display the map.

For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights or safety of users or the public, or enforce our terms.

In a business transfer. If FindMyCFI is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Some information may persist in backups for a limited time before being overwritten.

5. Your choices and rights

You can access and update most of your information directly through your account settings. You can request that we delete your account and associated personal information by contacting us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. We will honor these rights as required by law.

If you no longer wish to receive notification emails, you can manage your preferences where available or contact us to opt out. Transactional emails essential to the service may still be sent.

6. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including access controls that limit who can read sensitive data. For example, instructor verification information and profile-view data are restricted at the database level so they are accessible only to the appropriate owner. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Minors

FindMyCFI requires all account holders to be at least 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and any such account will be removed if discovered.

Users who are 16 or 17 years old may hold an account only under the parental supervision terms described in our Terms of Service. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice as appropriate. Your continued use of FindMyCFI after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
